Health Security Expert Alerts if U.S. Fought World War II Like It's Battling COVID, It Would Have Lost

A health security expert from Johns Hopkins University warned that if the U.S. had actually fought World War II the way it is currently fighting the brand-new coronavirus pandemic, it would have lost.

The U.S. continues to have the greatest number of infections and deaths due to COVID-19 of any nation in the world.

Trump, who will leave office in January, has been widely panned for his reaction to the pandemic. Throughout the public health crisis, the president has repeatedly minimized the seriousness of COVID-19 and been dismissive of mask using and social distancing, even as his own White House advisers have advised the public to adhere to federal guidance.

On Sunday, Dr. Scott Atlas, a radiologist and special adviser to Trump on COVID-19, criticized the brand-new emergency restrictions purchased by Michigan’s Guv Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat. He called on Michiganders to “rise up” against the guv’s orders— which shuttered indoor dining and bars, while ending in-person learning for colleges and high schools for three weeks.

But Atlas’ remarks appeared rather at chances with remarks by Assistant Secretary of Health Brett Giroir, a member of the White House coronavirus job force. Giroir told ABC News’ This Week on Sunday that dining establishments and bars ought to be closed

” We’re going to need to do things like limit participation or close bars, close indoor restaurants, since that’s extremely essential. If we do these things, integrated with the screening that we have, we can flatten the curve. If we do refrain from doing these things, the cases will continue to go up,” Giroir stated.

President-elect Joe Biden urged the present administration to do more to resolve the pandemic in Friday remarks. “This crisis demands a robust and immediate federal reaction, which has been woefully lacking,” Biden said.
