Eight years after the fall of Anathama and the destruction of Dysto Ahaz, Dragoon and Profen have relocated to Bayou Eer where they are Grand Marshals for the Caste 23. As part of the Grand Circle, they are members of an elite heiroloid court.Dragoon quickly finds herself alienated from the other marshals of the Circle when her Heretic Hunter roots continually haunt her. She begins to question the Caste 23 when she and Profen are sent on a mission to retrieve a device known as the “Keygen”. The Keygen is hidden in a colony consisting of peaceful heiroloids known as “The Sapphire Insurgency”, who depend on the Keygen to sustain their way of life. Seeing that the settlers of the colony are not a threat to the Caste 23, Dragoon starts a rebellion. Her actions set in motion a civil war among the grand marshals, a war that was foretold a century ago by the ancestors of the colony. It is the legend of the Crimson King and his Lavender Queen, and how they establish their heiroloid kingdom.
